System malfunction location

Lost communication with NOx sensor

Detection condition

•  With the following conditions met, a communication error between the PCM and NOx sensor is continued for 5 s or more.

Precondition

•  The following conditions continue for 1.5 s

―  Battery voltage: 10 V or more

―  Ignition was switched ON (engine off or on)

Fail-safe

•  Inhibits the DENOx/DESOx control.

Possible cause

•  CAN communication line malfunction between PCM and NOx sensor

•  NOx sensor malfunction

•  PCM malfunction

• Inspect according to the diagnostic procedure in ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC [MULTIPLEX COMMUNICATION SYSTEM]. (See CONTROLLER AREA NETWORK (CAN) MALFUNCTION DIAGNOSIS FLOW [(E)].)
