ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT [SKYACTIV-X 2.0]

ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT [SKYACTIV-X 2.0]

 id0112hf800600

Oil and chemical type

Engine coolant

Type: Recommended engine coolant

Warning
•  If the cooling system cap or the water-cooled charge air cooler reserve tank cap is removed when the engine is hot, steam and boiling water may be injected, causing severe burns or severe injury. Perform the removal of the cooling system cap and water-cooled charge air cooler reserve tank cap when the engine is cool.
•  Turn off the engine and wait until it is cool. Even then, be very careful when removing the cap. Wrap a thick cloth around it and slowly turn it counterclockwise to the first stop. Step back while the pressure escapes.
•  When you are sure all the pressure is gone, press down on the cap using the cloth, turn it, and remove it.
Caution
•  Use engine coolant at a concentration that meets the environmental conditions in which the vehicle is driven, otherwise engine damage could occur.
•  The engine has aluminum parts and must be protected by an ethylene-glycol-based coolant to prevent corrosion and freezing.
•  Do not use coolants containing Alcohol, Methanol, Borate or Silicate. These coolants could damage the cooling system.
•  Use only soft (demineralized) water in the coolant mixture. Water that contains minerals will cut down on the coolant's effectiveness.
•  Engine coolant damages paint. If engine coolant does get on a painted surface, rinse it off quickly.
Note
•  For vehicles with an “FL22” mark on or near the cooling system cap, use genuine long-life coolant (golden).

•  Because genuine long-life coolant (golden) is already diluted, use it as it is.

Engine Coolant Replacement Procedure

1.  Remove the cooling system cap.

2.  Drain the engine coolant from the coolant reserve tank.

3.  Insert an appropriate hose (hose inner diameter: 7 mm) into the service hole of front under cover No.1.

4.  Connect the hose to the engine coolant outlet of the radiator.

5.  Loosen the engine coolant drain plug and drain the engine coolant.

6.  After completely draining the engine coolant, tighten the engine coolant drain plug.

7.  Referring to the following chart, select the correct volume percentage of the water and engine coolant.

8.  Add engine coolant until it reaches the top of the filling port of the radiator.

9.  Add engine coolant to the coolant reserve tank up to the F mark.

10.  Install the cooling system cap.

11.  Perform air bleeding. (See Air Bleeding Procedure.)

12.  Install the service hole cover.

Air Bleeding Procedure

1.  Perform the following procedure.

Vehicles with full-auto air conditioner
1.  Operate the temperature control dial until “Hi” is displayed.
Vehicles with manual air conditioner
1.  Operate the temperature control dial fully to the HOT end.

2.  Start the engine and idle it for 10 s.

3.  Stop the engine for 50 s.

4.  Repeat Steps 2 and 3 five times.

5.  Verify the following.

•  Is the engine coolant filled to the top of the filling port of the radiator?
―  If the engine coolant is filled to the top of the filling port of the radiator, go to the next step.
―  If the engine coolant is not filled to the top of the filling port of the radiator, add the engine coolant up to the top of the port and return to Step 2.

Caution
•  If the engine coolant temperature becomes too high, stop the engine so that the engine coolant temperature decreases to avoid overheating. Then, specify the malfunctioning location, and repair or replace that location.
Note
•  If the accelerator pedal is depressed continuously for a certain period of time, the engine speed may decrease to the idle speed. This is due to the fuel cut control operation, which prevents overheating, and it does not indicate a malfunction. The engine control returns to normal when the accelerator pedal is released.

6.  Maintain the engine speed at 2,000 rpm and warm up the engine until the cooling fan starts rotating.

7.  Stop the engine and wait until the engine coolant temperature decreases.

8.  Verify the following.

•  Is the engine coolant filled to the top of the filling port of the radiator?
―  If the engine coolant is filled to the top of the filling port of the radiator, go to the next step.
―  If the engine coolant is not filled to the top of the filling port of the radiator, add the engine coolant up to the top of the port and perform Steps 2, 3, and 4, and then return to Step 8.

9.  Add engine coolant to the coolant reserve tank up to the F mark.
