REAR BRAKE DISC PAD REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(E)]

Warning
•  If the vehicle is driven without ending maintenance mode, it could result in an accident. After performing the maintenance mode work, always end maintenance mode.
Note
•  When transitioning to maintenance mode, the electronically controlled brake unit and the electric parking brake functions stop.
•  When transitioning to maintenance mode, the clearance between the rear disc pads and the rear disc plates expands.
•  When the maintenance mode is completed, perform the electric parking brake automatic adjustment.
•  With the electric parking brake automatic adjustment, the electric parking brake motor gear unit operation time is longer than normal.
•  The brake disc outer diameter shown in the figure for 16-inch brake vehicles and 17-inch brake vehicles are as follows.

―  Vehicles with 16-inch brakes: Brake disc outer diameter 265 mm {10.4 in}
―  Vehicles with 17-inch brakes: Brake disc outer diameter 303 mm {11.9 in}

1.  Switch to the maintenance mode. (See MAINTENANCE MODE [(E)].)

2.  Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION [(E)].)

3.  Remove the wheel and tire. (See WHEEL AND TIRE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

Caution
•  Do not allow moisture, dust or foreign matter to penetrate the connector as it could cause the electric parking brake motor gear unit to malfunction.

4.  Disconnect the electric parking brake motor gear unit connector. (See ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE MOTOR GEAR UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

5.  Remove in the order indicated in the table.

6.  Install in the reverse order of removal.

7.  End the maintenance mode. (See MAINTENANCE MODE [(E)].)

8.  After installation, pump the brake pedal a few times and inspect the following:

Rear Brake Caliper Removal Note

1.  Remove the rear brake caliper and suspend it in a place out of the way using a cable.

Disc Pad Installation Note

1.  Clean the exposed area of the piston.

Caution
•  If the piston is pushed into the rear brake caliper while rotating the piston, the rear brake caliper internal parts and dust seal could be damaged. Be careful not to rotate the piston when pushing the piston into the rear brake caliper.

2.  Completely press in the piston using a commercially available disc brake expander tool.

3.  Apply grease to the locations shown in the figure.

4.  Install the disc pads to the rear brake mounting support.


Retaining Clip Installation Note

1.  Temporarily install the retaining clip to the rear brake caliper and rear brake mounting support as shown in the figure.

2.  While holding retaining clip A so that it does not detach from the rear brake caliper, install retaining clip B to the rear brake mounting support.

3.  Verify that the retaining clip is installed to the rear brake caliper and rear brake mounting support securely.
