ENGINE STALLS WHEN SHIFTED TO D, M OR R POSITION [EV6A-EL, EV6AX-EL]

Troubleshooting item

Engine stalls when shifted to D, M or R position

Description

•  Engine stalls when shifting from N or P position to D, M or R position at idle.

Possible cause

1.  Not within idle speed specification

2.  TCC piston malfunction (solenoid drive circuit, hydraulic passage blockage, poor operation)

―  Output solenoid valve malfunction (stuck)

•  TCC control solenoid

3.  Torque converter malfunction

VERIFY IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM OR TORQUE CONVERTER

•  Perform the symptom troubleshooting “ENGINE STALLS-AFTER START/AT IDLE” and “LOW IDLE/STALLS DURING DECELERATION”.

Yes

Repair or replace any malfunctioning parts according to the inspection result.

No

Go to the next step.

DETERMINE IF MALFUNCTION IS DUE TO TORQUE CONVERTER OPERATION MALFUNCTION

•  Verify the malfunction symptom.

•  Does the engine stall in the R position?

Yes

Replace the torque converter.

No

Go to the next step.

DETERMINE IF MALFUNCTION IS DUE TO TCC SOLENOID VALVE OPERATION MALFUNCTION OR AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE INTERNAL MALFUNCTION

•  Verify the malfunction symptom.

•  Does the engine stall in the D or M position?

Yes

Replace the control valve body.

No

Replace the automatic transaxle.

2		No	Go to the next step.
3	DETERMINE IF MALFUNCTION IS DUE TO TCC SOLENOID VALVE OPERATION MALFUNCTION OR AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE INTERNAL MALFUNCTION • Verify the malfunction symptom. • Does the engine stall in the D or M position?
