•  The SRS air bag system can be identified by whether or not the seat track position sensor is present.
―  Standard deployment control system: Without seat track position sensor
―  Two-step deployment control system: With seat track position sensor

U0156:41: Communication error with instrument cluster (check sum error)

U0156:82: Communication error with instrument cluster (counter error)

Detection condition
U0156:41
•  The SAS control module detects that a check sum error received from the instrument cluster.
U0156:82
•  The SAS control module detects that a counter value error received from the instrument cluster.
Fail-safe
•  Not applicable
Possible cause
•  Instrument cluster malfunction
•  Noise enters communication signal with instrument cluster
•  BCM malfunction
•  SAS control module malfunction

VERIFY OTHER SAS CONTROL MUDULE DTCs
•  Clear the DTC for the SAS control module using the M-MDS.
•  Perform the DTC inspection for the SAS control module using the M-MDS.
•  Is DTC U3000:49 displayed?
Yes
Go to the applicable DTC inspection.
No
Go to the next step.

VERIFY BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) DTCs
•  Retrieve the body control module (BCM) DTCs using the M-MDS.
•  Are any DTCs displayed?
Yes
Repair or replace the malfunctioning part according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
No
Go to the next step.

VERIFY IF MALFUNCTIONING LOCATION IS INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DEPENDING ON REPEATABILITY
•  Clear the DTC for the SAS control module using the M-MDS.
•  Perform the DTC inspection for the SAS control module using the M-MDS.
•  Is the same Pending DTC present?
Yes
Replace the instrument cluster and perform the repair completion verification.
No
DTC troubleshooting completed.
Repair completion verification
PERFORM SAS CONTROL MODULE DTC INSPECTION
•  Clear the DTC for the SAS control module using the M-MDS.
•  Perform the DTC inspection for the SAS control module using the M-MDS.
•  Are the same Pending DTCs present?
Yes
Refer to the controller area network (CAN) malfunction diagnosis flow to inspect for a CAN communication error.
If the CAN communication is normal, perform the diagnosis from Step 1.
No
DTC troubleshooting completed.
