System malfunction location

Module communication error (CAN BUS No.1)

Detection condition
•  The Mazda M Hybrid battery detects a CAN BUS communication line (CAN BUS No.1) malfunction.
Precondition
•  Mazda M Hybrid battery is any of the following conditions (PID: BECM_STAT)
―  FAIL
―  INITIAL
―  STANDBY
―  PRECHARGE
―  READY
•  1.5 s have elapsed after the ignition was switched ON (engine off or on)
•  Voltage at Mazda M Hybrid battery terminal 1D is 9—16 V for a continuous 1 s
Fail-safe
•  The integrated starter generator (ISG) only generates power required for power supply to the 12 V system.
•  Inhibits the i-stop control.
•  Inhibits the non-power generation control.
•  Inhibits regenerative braking by the integrated starter generator (ISG).
•  Inhibits motor assist control by the integrated starter generator (ISG).
Possible cause
•  Mazda M Hybrid battery connector or terminals malfunction
•  Short to ground in Mazda M Hybrid battery CAN_H communication line
•  Short to power supply in Mazda M Hybrid battery CAN_L communication line
•  Open circuit in any of the following Mazda M Hybrid battery circuits.
―  CAN_H communication line
―  CAN_L communication line
•  Malfunction in CAN communication line between PCM and Mazda M Hybrid battery
•  Mazda M Hybrid battery malfunction

Diagnostic Procedure

•  Perform an inspection in accordance with the multiplex communication system diagnostic procedure. (See CONTROLLER AREA NETWORK (CAN) MALFUNCTION DIAGNOSIS FLOW [(E)].)
