DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER REGENERATION [MZR-CD (RF Turbo)]

Warning
•  High temperature exhaust gas is emitted during diesel particulate filter manual regeneration. People near the vehicle could be seriously burned, or flammable objects could catch fire. Always perform diesel particulate filter regeneration away from people and flammable objects.
•  If large amounts of exhaust gas are inhaled, it may cause carbon monoxide poisoning. Always perform diesel particulate filter manual regeneration in a well-ventilated place. (Avoid performing diesel particulate filter manual regeneration indoors using an exhaust air duct. Perform it in the open air.)
Caution
•  Perform diesel particulate filter manual regeneration with the hood opened to prevent engine compartment overheating.
•  If electrical load is applied, the post injection amount is changed and diesel particulate filter manual regeneration cannot be performed correctly. Do not apply electrical load, such as turning on headlights or the rear window defroster, during diesel particulate filter manual regeneration. The air conditioner is automatically turned off.
•  If there are obstructions such as a wall around the tailpipe during diesel particulate filter manual regeneration, it will obstruct the exhaust gas passage (airflow), and the diesel particulate filter manual regeneration may not be performed correctly due to the increase in exhaust gas temperature. Always perform diesel particulate filter regeneration with no obstructions around tailpipe.
Note
•  According to the amount of accumulated particulate matter (PM) in the diesel particulate filter, the diesel particulate filter indicator light or MIL, or both, illuminates or flashes.
•  Normal and long modes are available for diesel particulate filter manual regeneration. The PCM calculates the amount of accumulated PM, automatically selects normal mode or long mode according to the amount, then diesel particulate filter manual regeneration is performed. In diesel particulate filter manual regeneration, regeneration is forcibly performed using the WDS or equivalent.
•  Depending on the amount of accumulated PM, it may take a maximum of 94 min. from the time diesel particulate filter manual regeneration is started to the time the diesel particulate filter indicator light goes out.
•  If any of the below DTCs are stored in the PCM, manual regeneration will be blocked by the PCM. Carry out the appropriate inspection procedure for the stored DTCs before commencing manual regeneration:
P0045, P0093, P0097, P0098, P0101, P0102, P0103, P0106, P0107, P0108, P0112, P0113, P0117, P0118, P0131, P0132, P0151, P0152, P0154, P0191, P0192, P0193, P0201, P0202, P0203, P0204, P0299, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304, P0337, P0406, P0500, P0545, P0546, P0548, P0549, P0605, P0606, P0628, P0629, P1378, P1379, P1589, P1675, P1676, P2002, P2032, P2033, P2146, P2147, P2148, P2149, P2228, P2229, P2454, P2455, P2456, P2621, P2622, P242F*, P253F.
*:For P242F, manual regeneration will only be blocked if an excessive amount of soot is in the diesel particulate filter.
•  If canceling diesel particulate filter manual regeneration, perform the following procedure:
1.  During diesel particulate filter manual regeneration, depress the clutch pedal and shift to 1st gear. (Keep depressing the clutch pedal.)
2.  Verify that the engine speed decreases from 1,750 to 775 rpm. (Manual regeneration is canceled.)
3.  To stabilize the exhaust gas temperature, shift to neutral soon after the engine speed decreases to 775 rpm, and keep the engine speed at 3,000 rpm for 1 min. (Finished)
―  If diesel particulate filter manual regeneration is to be performed again, leave the vehicle untouched for approx. 5 min. before starting the operation.

*1  :In normal mode, perform manual regeneration for 14 min. at the idle speed of 1,750 rpm, and idle the engine for 3 min. (cooling). Perform manual regeneration again for 14 min. at the idle speed of 1,750 rpm, then idle the engine for 3 min. (cool down) and finish the diesel particulate filter manual regeneration. (Time required: 34 min.)
*2  :In long mode, decrease the regeneration temperature and perform manual regeneration of the diesel particulate filter for approx. 60 min.

Using WDS or equivalent

1.  Connect the WDS to DLC-2.

am6zzw00011767

2.  Set up the WDS or equivalent (including the vehicle recognition).

3.  Select “Powertrain”.

4.  Select “DPF”.

5.  Select “DPF Regeneration” and perform procedures according to directions on the WDS or equivalent screen.

Note
•  If the diesel particulate filter indicator light does not go off after diesel particulate filter manual regeneration is finished, perform diesel particulate filter manual regeneration again from Step.1.
•  Even when diesel particulate filter manual regeneration is finished and the diesel particulate filter indicator light or MIL, or both, goes out, DTCs (P242F, P2458) are still recorded in the PCM as a past malfunction. Erase all DTCs using the WDS or equivalent after diesel particulate filter manual regeneration is finished. (See AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE [MZR-CD (RF Turbo)].)

6.  Retrieve DTCs using the WDS or equivalent, then verify that DTCs are present.

•  If a DTC is present, perform the applicable DTC inspection. (See DTC TABLE [MZR-CD (RF Turbo)].)

Without using WDS or equivalent

1.  Start the engine.

2.  Ground the TEST terminal using a jumper wire.

am6zzw00011775

3.  Repeatedly depress and release the accelerator pedal fully two times.

―  If the engine speed does not increase, detach the jumper wire from the TEST terminal and return to procedure 2.

Note
•  When the diesel particulate filter regeneration is completed, the engine speed returns to normal.
