SPARK PLUG REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-X 2.0]

Caution
•  Always use the specified spark plug. Otherwise, the engine performance may deteriorate or the engine may be damaged.

1.  Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION [(E)].)

2.  Open the engine cover.

3.  Remove the ignition coil and the ignition coil bracket. (See IGNITION COIL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-X 2.0].)

4.  Remove the spark plug using the plug wrench.

Caution
•  Always tighten the spark plug to the specified torque according to the procedure. Otherwise, it could cause the following negative effects.
―  Engine damage due to interference between spark plug and piston
―  Deterioration of fuel economy and exhaust gas properties caused by blocking flow of air-fuel mixture in cylinder

5.  Install the spark plug to the specified torque using the plug wrench.

Spark plug tightening torque
15—20 N·m {1.6—2.0 kgf·m, 12—14 ft·lbf}

Note
•  After installing the spark plug, it is not necessary to pay attention to the direction of the [T] mark or the color marking on the spark plug terminal.
•  The orientation of the spark plug electrode will be within the proper range when tightened to the specified torque.

6.  Install the ignition coil and the ignition coil bracket. (See IGNITION COIL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-X 2.0].)

7.  Close the engine cover.

8.  Connect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION [(E)].)
