CYLINDER PRESSURE SENSOR INSPECTION [SKYACTIV-X 2.0]

 id0140hf646400

•  Perform the following inspections to examine the cylinder pressure sensor.

Inspection method

Page

DTC inspection
Visual inspection
Resistance inspection
Compression inspection

DTC Inspection

1.  Connect the M-MDS to the DLC-2.

2.  Perform the DTC inspection using the M-MDS. (See DTC INSPECTION.)

•  If any DTC related to the cylinder pressure sensor is present, repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting. (See DTC TABLE [PCM (SKYACTIV-X)].)

Visual Inspection

Caution
•  Do not wipe the end of the cylinder pressure sensor. Wiping the sensor detection area could damage the area and decrease its durability.

1.  Remove the cylinder pressure sensor. (See CYLINDER PRESSURE SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-X 2.0].)

2.  Visually inspect the cylinder pressure sensor for the following:

•  Damage, cracks, soiling
―  If there is any malfunction, repair or replace the cylinder pressure sensor. (See CYLINDER PRESSURE SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-X 2.0].)

Resistance Inspection

1.  Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION [(E)].)

2.  Disconnect the cylinder pressure sensor connector. (See CYLINDER PRESSURE SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-X 2.0].)

3.  Verify that the resistance values between the following terminals are within the standard.

Specification (Reference)

Between cylinder pressure sensor connector terminals

Resistance [kΩ]

Terminal A (power supply circuit)—terminal B (ground circuit)
3.7
Terminal A (power supply circuit)—terminal C (signal circuit)
5.5
Terminal B (ground circuit)—terminal C (signal circuit)
9.3

•  If not as specified, replace the cylinder pressure sensor. (See CYLINDER PRESSURE SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-X 2.0].)

Compression Inspection

Warning
•  Highly pressurized fuel may spray out if the fuel line is cut. Due to the following dangers occurring with a fuel spray, always complete the [Fuel Line Safety Procedure] to prevent the fuel from spraying.
―  Fuel may cause irritation if it comes in contact with skin and eyes.
―  If fuel ignites and causes a fire, it may lead to serious injury or death, and damage to property and facilities.
•  A person charged with static electricity could cause a fire or explosion, resulting in death or serious injury. Before servicing the fuel system, make sure to discharge static electricity by touching a vehicle.

1.  Connect the M-MDS to the DLC-2.

2.  Perform the DTC inspection and record the displayed DTCs. (See DTC INSPECTION.)

3.  Perform the [Fuel Line Safety Procedure] referring to the [BEFORE REPAIR PROCEDURE]. (See BEFORE SERVICE PRECAUTION [SKYACTIV-X 2.0].)

4.  Remove the fuel pump relay. (See RELAY LOCATION [(E)].)

5.  Remove the injector relay. (See RELAY LOCATION [(E)].)

6.  Remove the cylinder pressure sensor to be inspected. (See CYLINDER PRESSURE SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-X 2.0].)

7.  Replace the cylinder pressure sensor for another cylinder with the cylinder pressure sensor to be inspected. (See CYLINDER PRESSURE SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-X 2.0].)

8.  Install the injector relay.

9.  Install the fuel pump relay.

10.  Connect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION [(E)].)

11.  Start the engine.

12.  Perform the DTC inspection for the PCM. (See DTC INSPECTION.)

13.  Verify if the same DTCs as those recorded in Step 2 are detected.

If the same DTCs are detected:
•  The sensor being inspected is normal. The combustion chamber being inspected is considered to be malfunctioning. Perform the compression pressure inspection. (See COMPRESSION INSPECTION [SKYACTIV-X 2.0].)
If DTCs for the other cylinder number are detected:
•  The cylinder pressure sensor being inspected is malfunctioning. Replace the cylinder pressures sensor. (See CYLINDER PRESSURE SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-X 2.0].)
If no DTC is detected:
•  The cylinder sensor connector may have poor contact. Install the cylinder sensor connector correctly and perform Step 12 again.
