DTC C05D3:97 [ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED BRAKE UNIT]

Note
•  If the battery terminal is disconnected before the electronically controlled brake unit shuts down, DTC C05D3:97 is output. In this case, the electronically controlled brake unit cannot operate normally and the initial check takes longer, but this does not indicate a vehicle malfunction.
•  The i-ACTIVSENSE warning light may turn on when DTC C05D3:97 is output, but this does not indicate an i-ACTIVSENSE related system malfunction.

Detection condition
•  The electronically controlled brake unit detects that the brake pedal is excessively depressed.
•  The electronically controlled brake unit starts up in an irregular condition.
Fail-safe
Refer to “DTC Table” and “Fail-safe Function Malfunction Contents Table”. (See DTC TABLE [ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED BRAKE UNIT].)
Possible cause
•  Brake pedal is excessively depressed
•  Removing the battery terminal before shutdown of the electronically controlled brake unit
•  Electronically controlled brake unit malfunction

VERIFY IF BRAKE PEDAL IS EXCESSIVELY DEPRESSED
•  Verify with the customer whether or not the brake pedal was excessively depressed before bringing in the vehicle.
•  Is the brake pedal excessively depressed?
Yes
System is normal. (Explain to the customer that a DTC was displayed by the fail-safe operating to protect the electronically controlled brake unit due to excessively depressing the brake pedal.)
No
Go to the next step.
Repair completion verification 1
VERIFY THAT VEHICLE IS REPAIRED
•  Clear the DTC recorded in the memory.
•  Perform the work of depressing the brake pedal for 3 s or more and then releasing it for 5 times or more with the ignition switched ON (engine off or on).
•  Perform the DTC inspection for the electronically controlled brake unit.
•  Is the same Pending DTC present?
Yes
Refer to the controller area network (CAN) malfunction diagnosis flow to inspect for a CAN communication error.
If the CAN communication is normal, perform the diagnosis from Step 1.
•  If the malfunction recurs, replace the electronically controlled brake unit, then go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.

VERIFY IF OTHER DTCs DISPLAYED
•  Perform the DTC inspection.
•  Are any DTCs displayed?
Yes
Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
No
DTC troubleshooting completed.
