Outline

System malfunction location

Rear side radar sensor (LH)/(RH) internal malfunction or poor installation

Detection condition

•  When any of the following conditions is met.

―  The vehicle control module (VCM) detects a rear side radar sensor (LH)/(RH) internal malfunction for 12 s.

―  The vehicle control module (VCM) detects that the rear side radar sensor (LH)/(RH) is installed poorly for 12 s.

Fail-safe

(See DTC TABLE [VEHICLE CONTROL MODULE (E)].)

Possible cause

•  Rear side radar sensor (LH)/(RH) poor installation

•  Rear side radar sensor (RH) malfunction

•  Rear side radar sensor (LH) malfunction

•  Vehicle control module (VCM) malfunction (built into body control module (BCM))

INSPECT VEHICLE CONTROL MODULE (VCM) AND BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) FOR MALFUNCTION

•  Perform the DTC inspection for the vehicle control module (VCM) and the body control module (BCM).

•  Is a DTC related to an internal malfunction displayed?

Yes

Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.

(See DTC TABLE [BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) (E)].)

No

Go to the next step.

INSPECT REAR SIDE RADAR SENSOR (LH) FOR MALFUNCTION

•  Perform the DTC inspection for the rear side radar sensor (LH).
(See DTC INSPECTION.)

•  Is a DTC displayed?

Yes

Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.

(See DTC TABLE [REAR SIDE RADAR SENSOR (E)].)

No

Go to the next step.

INSPECT REAR SIDE RADAR SENSOR (RH) FOR MALFUNCTION

•  Perform the DTC inspection for the rear side radar sensor (RH)
(See DTC INSPECTION.)

•  Is a DTC displayed?

Yes

Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.

(See DTC TABLE [REAR SIDE RADAR SENSOR (E)].)

No

Go to the next step.

VERIFY REAR BUMPER INSTALLATION CONDITION

•  Verify the rear bumper installation condition.
(See REAR BUMPER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(E)].)

•  Is the installation condition normal?

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.

(See REAR BUMPER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(E)].)

VERIFY REAR SIDE RADAR SENSOR INSTALLATION CONDITION

•  Verify the rear side radar sensor installation condition.
(See REAR SIDE RADAR SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

•  Is the installation condition normal?

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.

(See REAR SIDE RADAR SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

PERFORM REAR SIDE RADAR SENSOR RADAR AIMING

•  Perform the rear side radar sensor radar aiming.
(See FRONT SIDE/REAR SIDE RADAR SENSOR AIMING.)

•  Clear the DTC recorded in the memory.
(See CLEARING DTC.)

•  Perform the DTC inspection for the vehicle control module (VCM).
(See DTC INSPECTION.)

•  Is the same Pending DTC present?

Yes

Replace the rear side radar sensor (LH)/(RH), and perform the repair completion verification.

(See REAR SIDE RADAR SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

No

Go to repair completion verification 2.

Repair completion verification 1

VERIFY THAT VEHICLE IS REPAIRED

•  Install/connect the part removed/disconnected during the troubleshooting procedure.

•  Clear the DTC recorded in the memory.
(See CLEARING DTC.)

•  Perform the DTC inspection for the vehicle control module (VCM).
(See DTC INSPECTION.)

•  Is the same Pending DTC present?

Yes

Refer to the controller area network (CAN) malfunction diagnosis flow to inspect for a CAN communication error.

(See CONTROLLER AREA NETWORK (CAN) MALFUNCTION DIAGNOSIS FLOW [(E)].)

If the CAN communication is normal, perform the diagnosis from Step 1.

•  If the malfunction recurs, replace the body control module (BCM), then go to the next step.

No

Go to the next step.

Repair completion verification 2

VERIFY IF OTHER DTC IS DISPLAYED

•  Perform the DTC inspection.
(See DTC INSPECTION.)

•  Are any other DTCs displayed?

Yes

Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.

No

DTC troubleshooting completed.

2		No	Go to the next step.
3	INSPECT REAR SIDE RADAR SENSOR (RH) FOR MALFUNCTION • Perform the DTC inspection for the rear side radar sensor (RH) (See DTC INSPECTION.) • Is a DTC displayed?	Yes	Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting. (See DTC TABLE [REAR SIDE RADAR SENSOR (E)].)
3		No	Go to the next step.
4	VERIFY REAR BUMPER INSTALLATION CONDITION • Verify the rear bumper installation condition. (See REAR BUMPER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(E)].) • Is the installation condition normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
4		No	Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification. (See REAR BUMPER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(E)].)
5	VERIFY REAR SIDE RADAR SENSOR INSTALLATION CONDITION • Verify the rear side radar sensor installation condition. (See REAR SIDE RADAR SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.) • Is the installation condition normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
5		No	Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification. (See REAR SIDE RADAR SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
6	PERFORM REAR SIDE RADAR SENSOR RADAR AIMING • Perform the rear side radar sensor radar aiming. (See FRONT SIDE/REAR SIDE RADAR SENSOR AIMING.) • Clear the DTC recorded in the memory. (See CLEARING DTC.) • Perform the DTC inspection for the vehicle control module (VCM). (See DTC INSPECTION.) • Is the same Pending DTC present?	Yes	Replace the rear side radar sensor (LH)/(RH), and perform the repair completion verification. (See REAR SIDE RADAR SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
6		No	Go to repair completion verification 2.
Repair completion verification 1	VERIFY THAT VEHICLE IS REPAIRED • Install/connect the part removed/disconnected during the troubleshooting procedure. • Clear the DTC recorded in the memory. (See CLEARING DTC.) • Perform the DTC inspection for the vehicle control module (VCM). (See DTC INSPECTION.) • Is the same Pending DTC present?	Yes	Refer to the controller area network (CAN) malfunction diagnosis flow to inspect for a CAN communication error. (See CONTROLLER AREA NETWORK (CAN) MALFUNCTION DIAGNOSIS FLOW [(E)].) If the CAN communication is normal, perform the diagnosis from Step 1. • If the malfunction recurs, replace the body control module (BCM), then go to the next step.
