Outline

System malfunction location

MAF sensor circuit range/performance problem

Detection condition
•  When the following conditions are met, a condition whereby the intake air amount compared to the estimated intake air amount deviates above the specified value continues for 6 s.
―  1 s or more elapses after selector lever is operated
―  Estimated intake air amount: 0.02―2.0 g/stroke
―  BARO sensor: 72 kPa {0.73 kgf/cm2, 10 psi} or more
―  MAF sensor No.1: -10 °C {14 °F} or more
―  ECT sensor: -10 °C {14 °F} or more
―  Engine speed: 1,000―3,000 rpm
―  During fuel cut
―  Intake shutter valve opening angle: 60―95°
―  turbocharger solenoid valve target opening angle: 1―6mm {0.1―0.2 in}
―  LP-EGR control valve position sensor: Within 2.4 % or less
―  Exhaust shutter valve opening angle: 62° or more
―  The following DTCs are not detected
•  MAF sensor: P0102:00, P0103:00
•  BARO sensor: P2228:00, P2229:00
•  HP-EGR control valve position sensor: P0405:00, P0406:00
•  HP-EGR control valve control system: P0404:00
•  ECT sensor: P0117:00, P0118:00
•  MAP sensor: P0107:00, P0108:00
•  Actuator position sensor (turbocharger with variable turbine geometry): P2564:00, P2565:00
•  APP sensor No.1: P2122:00, P2123:00
•  APP sensor No.2: P2127:00, P2128:00
•  APP sensor: P2138:00
•  Intake shutter valve position sensor: P0122:00, P0123:00
•  IAT sensor No.3: P1118:00, P1119:00
•  Exhaust gas pressure sensor No.1: P0472:00, P0473:00
•  Exhaust gas temperature sensor No.1: P0545:00, P0546:00
•  LP-EGR control valve position sensor: P0407:00,P0408:00
Fail-safe
•  PCM restricts engine torque.
•  Limits the maximum engine speed.
•  Inhibits the DENOx/DESOx control.
•  Inhibits the diesel particulate filter regeneration control.
•  Inhibits the EGR control.
Possible cause
•  MAF/IAT sensor No.1 connector or terminal malfunction
•  MAF/IAT sensor No.1 poor installation
•  PCM connector or terminal malfunction
•  Air suction or clogging into intake air system (between airflow sensor and intake manifold)
•  Exhaust gas leakage or restriction from EGR system-related piping
•  MAF sensor malfunction
•  Turbocharger malfunction (turbine wheel or compressor wheel damage, sticking
•  PCM malfunction

RECORD VEHICLE STATUS WHEN DTC WAS DETECTED TO UTILIZE WITH REPEATABILITY VERIFICATION
•  Record the freeze frame data/snapshot data.
Note
•  Recording can be facilitated using the screen capture function of the PC.
Go to the next step.

VERIFY RELATED REPAIR INFORMATION OR SERVICE INFORMATION AVAILABILITY
•  Verify related Service Bulletins, on-line repair information, or Service Information availability.
•  Is any related Information available?
Yes
Perform repair or diagnosis according to the available information.
•  If the vehicle is not repaired, go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT FOR OTHER RELATED DTCs
•  Perform the DTC inspection for the PCM.
•  Are any other DTCs displayed?
Yes
Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT MAF/IAT SENSOR No.1 CONNECTOR FOR MALFUNCTION
•  Inspect the applicable connector and terminal.
•  Are the connector and terminal normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.

INSPECT MAF SENSOR/IAT SENSOR No.1 INSTALLATION CONDITION
•  Verify the MAF sensor/IAT sensor No.1 installation condition.
•  Is there looseness or dislodging in the installation?
Yes
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT PCM CONNECTOR FOR MALFUNCTION
•  Inspect the applicable connector and terminal.
•  Are the connector and terminal normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.

INSPECT INTAKE AIR SYSTEM FOR AIR SUCTION
•  Visually inspect the intake air system (between MAF sensor and intake manifold) for looseness, damage, and loss.
•  Is the intake air system normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.

INSPECT INTAKE AIR SYSTEM PIPING FOR CLOGGING
•  Inspect the intake air system piping (between MAF sensor and intake manifold).
•  Is there any clogging?
Yes
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT EGR SYSTEM FOR EXHAUST GAS LEAKAGE AND RESTRICTION
•  Inspect the following EGR system for exhaust gas leakage and restriction.
•  Is the EGR system piping normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location, then go to repair completion verification.

INSPECT MAF SENSOR FOR MALFUNCTION
•  Inspect the applicable part.
•  Is the part normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.

INSPECT TURBOCHARGER FOR MALFUNCTION
•  Is the part normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.
Repair completion verification 1
VERIFY THAT VEHICLE IS REPAIRED
•  Install/connect the part removed/disconnected during the troubleshooting procedure.
•  Clear the DTC recorded in the memory.
•  Replicate the vehicle conditions at the time the DTC was detected using the following procedure.
―  Start the engine and warm it up.
―  After accelerating the vehicle to 80 km/h, decelerate for 20 s or more using engine braking. Repeat this 2 times or more.
•  Perform the DTC inspection for the PCM.
•  Is the same Pending DTC present?
Yes
Refer to the controller area network (CAN) malfunction diagnosis flow to inspect for a CAN communication error.
If the CAN communication is normal, perform the diagnosis from Step 1.
•  If the malfunction recurs, replace the PCM, then go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.

VERIFY IF OTHER DTCs DISPLAYED
•  Perform the DTC inspection.
•  Are any other DTCs displayed?
Yes
Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
No
DTC troubleshooting completed.
