WHEEL HUB, STEERING KNUCKLE INSPECTION

Warning
•  If the vehicle is driven without ending maintenance mode, it could result in an accident. After performing the maintenance mode work, always end maintenance mode. (With Mazda M Hybrid)
Caution
•  When performing the procedure while the vehicle is on the ground, block the front and rear wheels using wheel blocks. Otherwise, the vehicle may move when the electric parking brake is released. (With Mazda M Hybrid)

Wheel Bearing Excessive Play Inspection

1.  Switch to the maintenance mode. (With Mazda M Hybrid) (See MAINTENANCE MODE [(E)].)

2.  Remove the wheel and tire. (See WHEEL AND TIRE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

3.  Disconnect the rubber from the bracket.

4.  Disconnect the front ABS wheel-speed sensor wiring harness on the steering knuckle and set it aside so that it does not interfere with the servicing.

5.  Remove the clip from the bracket.

6.  Remove the front brake hose from the bracket.

7.  Remove the front brake caliper component and suspend it in a place out of the way using a cable.(See FRONT BRAKE DISC REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(E)].)

8.  Remove the front disc plate.(See FRONT BRAKE DISC REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(E)].)

9.  Install the magnet base and dial gauge as shown in the figure and inspect for excess play in the axial direction of the wheel bearing.

Front wheel bearing maximum play
0.05 mm {0.002 in}
•  If it exceeds the maximum specification, replace the wheel bearing.(See WHEEL HUB, STEERING KNUCKLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(E)].)

10.  End the maintenance mode. (With Mazda M Hybrid) (See MAINTENANCE MODE [(E)].)
