Outline

System malfunction location

Configuration data

Detection condition
•  The electronically controlled brake unit detects that the configuration data stored by the electronically controlled brake unit and the configuration data received from the body control module (BCM) and the PCM do not correspond.
Fail-safe
Refer to “DTC Table” and “Fail-safe Function Malfunction Contents Table”. (See DTC TABLE [ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED BRAKE UNIT].)
Possible cause
Note
•  To correctly write the configuration data sent from the body control module (BCM) and PCM to electronically controlled brake unit, 30 s or more have to be elapsed since the ignition is switched ON (engine off or on).
•  DTCs are stored in the body control module (BCM).
―  Body control module (BCM) configuration not implemented
―  Body control module (BCM) internal memory malfunction
•  Body control module (BCM) configuration data error
•  Configuration procedure was not completed properly.
•  Electronically controlled brake unit removed from other vehicle is being used

Diagnostic Procedure

Step

Inspection

Results

Action

1
INSPECT PCM FOR MALFUNCTION
•  Perform the DTC inspection for PCM.
•  Are any DTCs displayed?
Yes
Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
No
Go to the next step.
2
INSPECT BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) FOR MALFUNCTION
•  Perform the DTC inspection for body control module (BCM).
•  Are any DTCs displayed?
Yes
Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
No
Go to the next step.
3
VERIFY REPLACEMENT RECORD OF ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED BRAKE UNIT
•  Before performing the troubleshooting diagnostic procedure this time, verify if the electronically controlled brake unit was replaced.
•  Was the electronically controlled brake unit replaced?
Yes
After reimplementing the required servicing when replacing the electronically controlled brake unit in accordance with electronically controlled brake unit removal/installation, perform the repair completion verification.
No
Go to the next step.
4
RESET CONFIGURATION DATA FOR BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM)
•  Perform the body control module (BCM) configuration using the M-MDS.
•  Clear the DTC recorded in the memory.
•  Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on) and wait for 30 s or more.
•  Perform the DTC inspection for the electronically controlled brake unit.
•  Is the same Pending DTC present?
Yes
Perform the body control module (BCM) configuration again using the M-MDS and perform the repair completion verification.n.
No
Go to repair completion verification 2.
Repair completion verification 1
VERIFY THAT VEHICLE IS REPAIRED
•  Clear the DTC recorded in the memory.
•  Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on) and wait for 30 s or more.
•  Perform the DTC inspection for the electronically controlled brake unit.
•  Is the same Pending DTC present?
Yes
Refer to the controller area network (CAN) malfunction diagnosis flow to inspect for a CAN communication error.
If the CAN communication is normal, perform the diagnosis from Step 1.
•  If the malfunction recurs, replace the electronically controlled brake unit, then go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
Repair completion verification 2
VERIFY IF OTHER DTC IS DISPLAYED
•  Perform the DTC inspection.
•  Are any other DTCs displayed?
Yes
Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
No
DTC troubleshooting completed.
