DTC P0016:00 [PCM (SKYACTIV-D)]

Outline

System malfunction location

Camshaft position/Crankshaft position correlation problem

Detection condition
•  While the crankshaft rotates 15 times with the following conditions A or B met, the CKP sensor and CMP sensor input signals do not match.
Condition A
―  Battery positive voltage: 8 V or more
―  0.5 s have elapsed after ignition is switched ON (engine on)
―  Engine speed: 1,000 rpm or less
Condition B
―  Battery positive voltage: 8 V or more
―  0.5 s have elapsed after ignition is switched ON (engine on)
―  Engine speed: 700—1,000 rpm
―  Engine coolant temperature: -10 °C or more
―  The following DTCs are not detected
•  ECT sensor: P0118:00, P0117:00
•  CMP sensor: P0341:00, P0342:00
•  CKP sensor: P0336:00, P0337:00
•  Constant voltage power supply control system: P0642:00, P0643:00
•  Constant voltage power supply control system: P0652:00, P0653:00
Fail-safe
•  PCM restricts engine-transaxle integration control. (ATX)
•  Inhibits engine-stop by operating the i-stop function.
Possible cause
•  CMP sensor connector or terminal malfunction
•  CKP sensor connector or terminal malfunction
•  PCM connector or terminal malfunction
•  Deviation between camshaft and CMP sensor detection area
•  Damage on CMP sensor detection area
•  Camshaft plate damage
•  CMP sensor malfunction
•  Deviation between crankshaft and CKP sensor detection area
•  Damage on CKP sensor detection area
•  Crankshaft plate damage
•  CKP sensor malfunction
•  Valve timing inappropriate
―  Improper installation of the timing chain to the cam sprocket teeth
―  Timing chain damage
―  Cam sprocket damage
•  PCM malfunction

RECORD VEHICLE STATUS WHEN DTC WAS DETECTED TO UTILIZE WITH REPEATABILITY VERIFICATION
•  Record the freeze frame data/snapshot data.
Note
•  Recording can be facilitated using the screen capture function of the PC.
Go to the next step.

VERIFY RELATED REPAIR INFORMATION OR SERVICE INFORMATION AVAILABILITY
•  Verify related Service Bulletins, on-line repair information, or Service Information availability.
•  Is any related Information available?
Yes
Perform repair or diagnosis according to the available information.
•  If the vehicle is not repaired, go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT FOR OTHER RELATED DTCs
•  Perform the DTC inspection for the PCM.
•  Are any other DTCs displayed?
Yes
Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT CMP SENSOR CONNECTOR FOR MALFUNCTION
•  Inspect the applicable connector and terminal.
•  Are the connector and terminal normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.

INSPECT CKP SENSOR CONNECTOR FOR MALFUNCTION
•  Inspect the applicable connector and terminal.
•  Are the connector and terminal normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.

INSPECT PCM CONNECTOR FOR MALFUNCTION
•  Inspect the applicable connector and terminal.
•  Are the connector and terminal normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.

INSPECT CMP SENSOR FOR MALFUNCTION
•  Inspect the applicable part.
•  Is the part normal?
Yes
Go to repair completion verification.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.

INSPECT CKP SENSOR FOR MALFUNCTION
•  Inspect the applicable part.
•  Is the part normal?
Yes
Go to repair completion verification.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.

INSPECT TIMING CHAIN FOR MALFUNCTION
•  Inspect the applicable part.
•  Is the part normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.
Repair completion verification 1
VERIFY THAT VEHICLE IS REPAIRED
•  Install/connect the part removed/disconnected during the troubleshooting procedure.
•  Clear the DTC recorded in the memory.
•  Replicate the vehicle conditions at the time the DTC was detected using the following procedure.
―  Perform the KOER self-test.
•  Perform the DTC inspection for the PCM.
•  Is the same Pending DTC present?
Yes
Refer to the controller area network (CAN) malfunction diagnosis flow to inspect for a CAN communication error.
If the CAN communication is normal, perform the diagnosis from Step 1.
•  If the malfunction recurs, replace the PCM, then go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
Repair completion verification 2
VERIFY IF OTHER DTCs DISPLAYED
•  Perform the DTC inspection.
•  Are any other DTCs displayed?
Yes
Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
No
DTC troubleshooting completed.
