•  If not within the specification, inspect the following items and repair or replace the applicable part if there is any malfunction.
―  Power brake unit installation condition
―  Deformation of or damage to the power brake unit fork

Brake pedal height (reference value) (Chinese specs.)
108.0 mm {4.252 in}
•  If there is no malfunction in the above items, replace the brake pedal. (See BRAKE PEDAL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [R.H.D.].)(See BRAKE PEDAL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L.H.D. (E)].)

Pedal Play Inspection

1.  Pump the pedal several times to release the vacuum in the power brake unit.

2.  Gently depress the pedal by hand and measure the pedal play.

Brake pedal play
Without Mazda M Hybrid: 5 mm {0.2 in} or less
With Mazda M Hybrid: 3 mm {0.1 in} or less
•  If not within the specification, inspect the wear of the clevis pin. Replace it if there is any malfunction. (See BRAKE PEDAL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [R.H.D.].)(See BRAKE PEDAL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L.H.D. (E)].)
―  If there is no malfunction in the clevis pin, there is a possibility that the power brake unit has some malfunction. Verify that there are no malfunctions, and replace it if necessary. (See POWER BRAKE UNIT INSPECTION [(E)].) (See POWER BRAKE UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [R.H.D.].) (See POWER BRAKE UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L.H.D. (E)].)

Pedal-to-floor Clearance Inspection

1.  Start the engine and depress the brake pedal with a force of 147 N {15.0 kgf, 33.0 lbf}.

2.  Measure the distance from the center of the upper surface of the pedal pad to the floor covering and verify that it is as specified.

Without Mazda M Hybrid: 61.6 mm {2.43 in}
With Mazda M Hybrid: 65.1 mm {2.56 in}

Without Mazda M Hybrid

•  If it is less than the specification, inspect for air in the brake line. (See BRAKE FLUID AIR BLEEDING [(E)].)

WithMazda M Hybrid

3.  Select the following item from the screen of the M-MDS.

(1)  Select “Self-Diagnosing Brake Line”.
•  If there is any malfunction, inspect for brake fluid leakage and then bleed the air using the M-MDS. (See BRAKE FLUID AIR BLEEDING [(E)].)
