Outline

System malfunction location

Engine overspeed condition

Detection condition
•  Engine speed is under any of the following conditions:
―  P or N position: 4,000 rpm or more
―  Position other than P or N: 5,600 rpm or more
Fail-safe
•  Not applicable
Possible cause
•  ATX system malfunction
―  Over-revolution caused by locking in improper gear
•  Malfunction caused by the following driving operations:
―  Over-revolution caused by improper shift operation
―  Deceleration and descending using improper gear position
•  Oil penetration to combustion chamber
•  Fuel injector malfunction
•  Refueled with fuel other than specified fuel or mixing
•  PCM malfunction

VERIFY RELATED REPAIR INFORMATION OR SERVICE INFORMATION AVAILABILITY
•  Verify related Service Bulletins, on-line repair information, or Service Information availability.
•  Is any related Information available?
Yes
Perform repair or diagnosis according to the available information.
•  If the vehicle is not repaired, go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.

VERIFY OTHER RELATED DTCs
•  Switch the ignition OFF, and then switch it ON (engine off).
•  Display the DTCs using the M-MDS.
•  Has DTC P0336:00 or P0337:00 been recorded?
Yes
Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
No
Go to the next step.

RECORD VEHICLE STATUS WHEN DTC WAS DETECTED TO UTILIZE WITH REPEATABILITY VERIFICATION
•  Record the freeze frame data/snapshot data.
Note
•  Recording can be facilitated using the screen capture function of the PC.
Go to the next step.

VERIFY FUEL SYSTEM PART-RELATED DTCs
•  Display the DTCs using the M-MDS.
•  Has DTC related to the fuel system part been stored?
Yes
Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
No
Go to the next step.

VERIFY ATX RELATED DTCs
•  Display the TCM DTC using the M-MDS.
•  Is a DTC displayed?
Yes
Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT EFFECT OF VEHICLE USE CONDITION FOR CAUSE OF MALFUNCTION
•  Verify how the customer drives the vehicle by asking the customer the following:
―  Improper shift operation
―  Deceleration and descending using improper gear position
―  Has anything other than the specified fuel been used?
•  Is the use situation as indicated above?
Yes
Explain to the customer that the vehicle is normal. (malfunction due to customer’s improper driving operation)
If there is a concern with customer’s driving, provide the customer some pertinent advice (such as gear selection, how to use manual mode).
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.
No
Go to the next step.

VERIFY ENGINE OIL LEVEL
•  Verify the engine oil level.
•  Is the oil level gauge appropriate?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.

INSPECT OIL PENETRATION TO ENGINE (COMBUSTION CHAMBER) FOR MALFUNCTION
•  Verify that there is no engine oil in the charge air cooler.
•  Remove the charge air cooler.
Note
•  Oil may penetrate into the charge air cooler due to the driving conditions or excessive oil refilling.
•  When tilting the charge air cooler, does engine oil drain from the charge air cooler.
Yes
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT FUEL INJECTOR FOR MALFUNCTION
•  Inspect the applicable part.
•  Is the part normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.
Repair completion verification 1
VERIFY THAT VEHICLE IS REPAIRED
•  Install/connect the part removed/disconnected during the troubleshooting procedure.
•  Clear the DTC recorded in the memory.
•  Replicate the vehicle conditions at the time the DTC was detected using the following procedure.
―  Start the engine and warm it up.
―  Drive the vehicle.
•  Perform the DTC inspection for the PCM.
•  Is the same Pending DTC present?
Yes
Refer to the controller area network (CAN) malfunction diagnosis flow to inspect for a CAN communication error.
If the CAN communication is normal, perform the diagnosis from Step 1.
•  If the malfunction recurs, replace the PCM, then go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
Repair completion verification 2
VERIFY IF OTHER DTCs DISPLAYED
•  Perform the DTC inspection.
•  Are any other DTCs displayed?
Yes
Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
No
DTC troubleshooting completed.
