Details On DTCs

Description

Power system: Battery deterioration

Detection condition
Determination conditions
•  The battery charge/discharge flow exceeds the specification.
Preconditions
•  Not applicable.
Drive cycle
•  1
Self test type
•  CMDTC self test
Sensor used
•  Current sensor
Fail-safe function
•  Inhibits engine-stop by operating the i-stop function.
Vehicle status when DTCs are output
•  The engine cannot be started or the engine may stall due to battery voltage decrease.
Possible cause
•  Battery malfunction
•  Current sensor malfunction
•  PCM malfunction

System Wiring Diagram

•  Not applicable.

Function Explanation (DTC Detection Outline)

•  The battery assures voltage for engine starting and while the vehicle is being driven, and for the vehicle's electrical devices when the engine is stopped by i-stop. If the frequency of battery charging/discharging is high, the battery will deteriorate which could result in poor engine startability and the loss of assured supply voltage to the vehicle’s electrical load.
•  The current sensor sends a battery charge/discharge value to the PCM via LIN communication. If the accumulated charge/discharge value exceeds the specified value, the PCM determines battery deterioration. In this case, the PCM determines a malfunction in a battery-related part and stores a DTC.

Repeatability Verification Procedure

1.  Start the engine.

Action

1
PURPOSE: VERIFY RELATED REPAIR INFORMATION OR SERVICE INFORMATION AVAILABILITY
•  Verify related Service Bulletins, on-line repair information, or Service Information availability.
•  Is any related Information available?
Yes
Perform repair or diagnosis according to the available information.
•  If the vehicle is not repaired, go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
2
PURPOSE: RECORD VEHICLE STATUS WHEN DTC WAS DETECTED TO UTILIZE WITH REPEATABILITY VERIFICATION
•  Record the freeze frame data/snapshot data.
Note
•  Recording can be facilitated using the screen capture function of the PC.
Go to the next step.
3
PURPOSE: VERIFY IF BATTERY VOLTAGE IS FALSELY RECOGNIZED BY DTC RELATED CURRENT SENSOR
•  Perform the DTC inspection for the PCM.
•  Are any of the following DTCs displayed?
―  P058A:00
Yes
Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
Go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
4
PURPOSE: VERIFY IF BATTERY VOLTAGE IS FALSELY RECOGNIZED BY DTC RELATED CAN OR LIN COMMUNICATION
•  Perform the DTC inspection for the PCM.
•  Are any other DTCs displayed?
Yes
Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
Go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step
5
PURPOSE: VERIFY IF A MALFUNCTION OCCURRED DUE TO FAILURE OF PERFORMING THE BATTERY INITIAL SETTING
•  Access the BATT_DAY PID using the M-MDS.
•  Has it only been a short while since the battery was replaced?
Yes
Verify the battery replacement record (servicing record or consultation with customer), and if it can be determined that the battery initial setting was not performed, perform the battery initial setting.
Go to Troubleshooting Diagnostic Procedure to perform the repair completion verification.
No
Go to Troubleshooting Diagnostic Procedure to perform the procedure from Step 1.

Troubleshooting Diagnostic Procedure

Intention of troubleshooting procedure
•  Step 1
―  Replace the battery.
•  Repair completion verification
―  Verify that the primary malfunction is resolved and there are no other malfunctions.

Step

Inspection

Results

Action

1
PURPOSE: REPLACE THE BATTERY
•  Replace the battery.
•  Perform the Battery Condition Initial Setting (i-stop setting) Procedure.
Go to the next step.
Repair completion verification 1
PURPOSE: VERIFY THAT VEHICLE IS REPAIRED
•  Install/connect the part removed/disconnected during the troubleshooting procedure.
•  Clear the DTC recorded in the memory.
•  Replicate the vehicle conditions at the time the DTC was detected using the following procedure.
―  Implement the repeatability verification procedure.
•  Perform the DTC inspection for the PCM.
•  Is the same Pending DTC present?
Yes
Perform the Battery Condition Initial Setting (i-stop setting) Procedure.
Repeat the inspection from repair completion verification.
•  If the malfunction is not corrected:
―  Refer to the controller area network (CAN) malfunction diagnosis flow to inspect for a CAN communication error.
•  If the CAN communication is normal, replace the PCM, then go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
Repair completion verification 2
PURPOSE: VERIFY IF OTHER DTCs DISPLAYED
•  Perform the DTC inspection.
•  Are any other DTCs displayed?
Yes
Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
No
DTC troubleshooting completed.
