DTC P081D:29 [BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM)]

Outline

System malfunction location

Neutral sensor error signal received

Detection condition

•  The body control module (BCM) receives the neutral sensor signal error signal from the PCM for 1 min or more.

Fail-safe

•  Perform the control with neutral sensor signal turned off.

Possible cause

•  DTCs are stored in the PCM.

•  Neutral sensor malfunction

•  PCM malfunction

•  Body control module (BCM) malfunction

•  Clear the DTC recorded in the memory.

•  Perform the DTC inspection for the body control module (BCM).

•  Is the same Pending DTC present?

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

Go to repair completion verification 2.

INSPECT PCM FOR MALFUNCTION

•  Perform the DTC inspection for the PCM.
(See DTC INSPECTION.)

•  Is a DTC displayed?

Yes

Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.

(See DTC TABLE [PCM (SKYACTIV-X)].)

No

Go to the next step.

INSPECT NEUTRAL SENSOR FOR MALFUNCTION

•  Inspect the applicable part.

•  Is the part normal?

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.

INSPECT PCM FOR MALFUNCTION DEPENDING ON REPEATABILITY

•  Clear the DTC recorded in the memory.
(See CLEARING DTC.)

•  Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on) and wait for 1 min or more.

•  Perform the DTC inspection for the body control module (BCM).
(See DTC INSPECTION.)

•  Is the same Pending DTC present?

Yes

Refer to the controller area network (CAN) malfunction diagnosis flow to inspect for a CAN communication error.

(See CONTROLLER AREA NETWORK (CAN) MALFUNCTION DIAGNOSIS FLOW [(E)].)

If the CAN communication is normal, replace the PCM and perform the repair completion verification.

Go to repair completion verification 2.

Repair completion verification 1

VERIFY THAT VEHICLE IS REPAIRED

•  Install/connect the part removed/disconnected during the troubleshooting procedure.

•  Clear the DTC recorded in the memory.
(See CLEARING DTC.)

•  Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on) and wait for 1 min or more.

•  Perform the DTC inspection for the body control module (BCM).
(See DTC INSPECTION.)

•  Is the same Pending DTC present?

Yes

Refer to the controller area network (CAN) malfunction diagnosis flow to inspect for a CAN communication error.

(See CONTROLLER AREA NETWORK (CAN) MALFUNCTION DIAGNOSIS FLOW [(E)].)

If the CAN communication is normal, perform the diagnosis from Step 1.

•  If the malfunction recurs, replace the body control module (BCM), then go to the next step.

No

Go to the next step.

Repair completion verification 2

VERIFY IF OTHER DTC IS DISPLAYED

•  Perform the DTC inspection.
(See DTC INSPECTION.)

•  Are any other DTCs displayed?

Yes

Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.

No

DTC troubleshooting completed.

2	INSPECT PCM FOR MALFUNCTION • Perform the DTC inspection for the PCM. (See DTC INSPECTION.) • Is a DTC displayed?	Yes	Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting. (See DTC TABLE [PCM (SKYACTIV-G (E))].) (See DTC TABLE [PCM (SKYACTIV-D)].) (See DTC TABLE [PCM (SKYACTIV-X)].)
2		No	Go to the next step.
3	INSPECT NEUTRAL SENSOR FOR MALFUNCTION • Inspect the applicable part. (See NEUTRAL SENSOR INSPECTION [SKYACTIV-D 1.8].) (See NEUTRAL SENSOR INSPECTION [SKYACTIV-G (WITH CYLINDER DEACTIVATION (E))].) (See NEUTRAL SENSOR INSPECTION [SKYACTIV-G (WITHOUT CYLINDER DEACTIVATION (E))].) 4	INSPECT PCM FOR MALFUNCTION DEPENDING ON REPEATABILITY • Clear the DTC recorded in the memory. (See CLEARING DTC.) • Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on) and wait for 1 min or more. • Perform the DTC inspection for the body control module (BCM). (See DTC INSPECTION.) • Is the same Pending DTC present?	Yes	Refer to the controller area network (CAN) malfunction diagnosis flow to inspect for a CAN communication error. (See CONTROLLER AREA NETWORK (CAN) MALFUNCTION DIAGNOSIS FLOW [(E)].) If the CAN communication is normal, replace the PCM and perform the repair completion verification. 4		No	Go to repair completion verification 2.

Repair completion verification 2	VERIFY IF OTHER DTC IS DISPLAYED • Perform the DTC inspection. (See DTC INSPECTION.) • Are any other DTCs displayed?	Yes	Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
Repair completion verification 2		No	DTC troubleshooting completed.
