Outline

System malfunction location

Diesel particulate filter system: Abnormal diesel particulate filter regeneration interval short distance

Detection condition
•  The following condition is met 3 times
―  Drive distance from previous diesel particulate filter regeneration to next diesel particulate filter regeneration is 50 km {31 mile} or less
―  PM target accumulation amount is high relative to actual PM regeneration amount
Fail-safe
•  Not applicable
Possible cause
•  Soot generation amount is high due to abnormal engine combustion
•  Exhaust gas pressure sensor No.2 malfunction
•  Difference in pressure between before and after passing diesel particulate filter is high
•  Soot cannot be removed by diesel particulate filter regeneration
•  PCM malfunction
System wiring diagram

Diagnostic Procedure

Step

Inspection

Results

Action

1
RECORD VEHICLE STATUS WHEN DTC WAS DETECTED TO UTILIZE WITH REPEATABILITY VERIFICATION
•  Record the freeze frame data/snapshot data.
Note
•  Recording can be facilitated using the screen capture function of the PC.
Go to the next step.
2
VERIFY RELATED REPAIR INFORMATION OR SERVICE INFORMATION AVAILABILITY
•  Verify related Service Bulletins, on-line repair information, or Service Information availability.
•  Is any related Information available?
Yes
Perform repair or diagnosis according to the available information.
•  If the vehicle is not repaired, go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
3
INSPECT FOR OTHER RELATED DTCs
•  Perform the DTC inspection for the PCM.
•  Are any other DTCs displayed?
Yes
Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
No
Go to the next step.
4
VERIFY PM ACCUMULATION AMOUNT IN DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER
•  Display the following PIDs using the M-MDS.
―  PM_ACCM_DSD
―  PM_GEN
•  Start the engine and race it at 3,000 rpm until the PM_ACCM_DSD monitored value stabilizes.
•  Is the PM_ACCM_DSD monitored value twice that of the PM_GEN monitored value or more?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 6.
5
INSPECT EXHAUST GAS PRESSURE SENSOR No.2 FOR MALFUNCTION
•  Inspect the applicable part.
•  Is the part normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.
6
PERFORM COMPULSORY DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER REGENERATION AND VERIFY PM ACCUMULATION AMOUNT
•  Perform compulsory diesel particulate filter regeneration.
•  Display the following PIDs using the M-MDS.
―  PM_ACCM_DSD
•  Has PM_ACCM_DSD lowered to near 0 after compulsory diesel particulate filter regeneration?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
If compulsory diesel particulate filter regeneration is completed, replace the catalytic converter (diesel particulate filter), then go to repair completion verification.
7
PERFORM FUEL INJECTION AMOUNT LEARNING
•  Perform the fuel injection amount learning.
•  Is the fuel injection amount learning completed?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Verify that the implementation conditions for fuel injection amount learning are met, and re-implement the fuel injection amount learning.
•  Fuel injection amount learning is completed:
―  Go to repair completion verification.
•  Fuel injection amount learning cannot be implemented:
―  Go to the next step.
8
VERIFY IF POOR FUEL INJECTION PRESSURE IS POSSIBLE CAUSE
•  Inspect the supply pump and verify the fuel supply line for clogging.
•  Is the fuel supply line normal?
Yes
Replace the fuel injector, then go to repair completion verification.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.
9
VERIFY IF EGR VALVE MALFUNCTION IS AFFECTED
•  Display the following PIDs using the M-MDS.
―  HI_PRES_EGR_VLV_DSD
―  HI_PRES_EGR_VLV_ACT
•  Start the engine, race it at 3,000 rpm, and idle it.
•  Does the HI_PRES_EGR_VLV_DSD monitored value conform to the HI_PRES_EGR_VLV_ACT monitored value?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Inspect the HP-EGR control valve.
•  If the malfunction recurs
―  Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.
•  If there is no malfunction
―  Go to the next step.
10
VERIFY IF INTAKE SHUTTER VALVE MALFUNCTION IS AFFECTED
•  Display the following PIDs using the M-MDS.
―  INTAKE_SHUT_VLV_POS
―  INTAKE_SHUT_VLV_COMD
•  Start the engine, race it at 3,000 rpm, and idle it.
•  Does the INTAKE_SHUT_VLV_POS value conform to the INTAKE_SHUT_VLV_COMD value?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Inspect the intake shutter valve.
•  If the malfunction recurs
―  Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.
•  If there is no malfunction
―  Go to the next step.
inspection
INSPECT TURBOCHARGER FOR MALFUNCTION
•  Is the part normal?
Yes
Replace the fuel injector, then go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location, then go to the next step.
Repair completion verification 1
