RADIATOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-X 2.0]

Warning

•  If the cooling system cap or the water-cooled charge air cooler reserve tank cap is removed when the engine is hot, steam and boiling water may be injected, causing severe burns or severe injury. Perform the removal of the cooling system cap and water-cooled charge air cooler reserve tank cap when the engine is cool.

•  Turn off the engine and wait until it is cool. Even then, be very careful when removing the cap. Wrap a thick cloth around it and slowly turn it counterclockwise to the first stop. Step back while the pressure escapes.

•  When you are sure all the pressure is gone, press down on the cap using the cloth, turn it, and remove it.

1.  Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION [(E)].)

2.  Remove front under covers No.1 and 2. (See FRONT UNDER COVER No.1 REMOVAL/INSTALLATION)(See FRONT UNDER COVER No.2 REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

3.  Drain the water-cooled charge air cooler coolant. (See WATER-COOLED CHARGE AIR COOLER COOLANT REPLACEMENT [SKYACTIV-X 2.0].)

4.  Drain the engine coolant. (See ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT [SKYACTIV-X 2.0])

5.  Open the engine cover. (See ENGINE COVER OPEN/CLOSE [SKYACTIV-X 2.0].)

6.  Remove the following parts as a single unit. (See AIR CLEANER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-X 2.0].)

•  Air hose

•  Air cleaner cover

•  Air cleaner element

•  Air cleaner case

•  Fresh-air duct

7.  Remove the coolant reserve tank. (See COOLANT RESERVE TANK REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-X 2.0].)

8.  Remove the cooling fan component. (See COOLING FAN MOTOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-X 2.0].)

9.  Remove using the procedure shown in the figure.

10.  Install in the reverse order of removal.

11.  Add engine coolant and water-cooled charge air cooler coolant. (See ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT [SKYACTIV-X 2.0])(See WATER-COOLED CHARGE AIR COOLER COOLANT REPLACEMENT [SKYACTIV-X 2.0].)

12.  Inspect for engine coolant leakage and water-cooled charge air cooler coolant leakage. (See ENGINE COOLANT LEAKAGE INSPECTION [SKYACTIV-X 2.0].)(See WATER-COOLED CHARGE AIR COOLER COOLANT LEAKAGE INSPECTION [SKYACTIV-X 2.0].)

Radiator Removal Note

1.  To prevent damage to the radiator core, protect it by covering the radiator surface with cardboard.

2.  Lift up the radiator and remove it from the radiator installation holes on the shroud panel.

3.  Move the radiator and condenser to the engine side.

4.  Remove the bolts securing the condenser to the radiator.

5.  Remove the radiator from above the engine compartment.
