Detection condition
•  The vehicle control module (VCM) receives a brake fluid error signal from the DSC HU/CM for 10 s.
Fail-safe
Possible cause
•  DSC HU/CM malfunction
―  Brake fluid level malfunction
•  Brake fluid level sensor connector or terminals malfunction
•  Brake fluid level sensor malfunction
•  Vehicle control module (VCM) malfunction (built into body control module (BCM))

INSPECT VEHICLE CONTROL MODULE (VCM) AND BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) FOR MALFUNCTION
•  Perform the DTC inspection for the vehicle control module (VCM) and the body control module (BCM).
•  Is a DTC related to an internal malfunction of vehicle control module (VCM) or body control module (BCM) displayed ?
Yes
Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
No
Go to the next step.

VERIFY BRAKE FLUID LEVEL
•  Inspect the brake fluid level.
•  Is the brake fluid level normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Add genuine brake fluid and perform the repair completion verification.

INSPECT BRAKE FLUID LEVEL SENSOR CONNECTOR FOR MALFUNCTION
•   Inspect the applicable connector and terminal.
•  Are the connector and terminal normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.

INSPECT BRAKE FLUID LEVEL SENSOR FOR MALFUNCTION
•  Inspect the applicable part.
•  Is the part normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the Master cylinder and perform the repair completion verification.

INSPECT DSC HU/CM FOR MALFUNCTION
•  Perform the DTC inspection for the DSC HU/CM.
•  Is a DTC displayed?
Yes
Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT DSC HU/CM FOR MALFUNCTION DEPENDING ON REPEATABILITY
•  Install/connect the part removed/disconnected during the troubleshooting procedure.
•  Clear the DTC recorded in the memory.
•  Perform the DTC inspection for the vehicle control module (VCM).
•  Is the same Pending DTC present?
Yes
Refer to the controller area network (CAN) malfunction diagnosis flow to inspect for a CAN communication error.
If the CAN communication is normal, replace the DSC HU/CM and perform the repair completion verification.
No
Perform the [ACTION FOR NON-REPEATABLE MALFUNCTIONS].
If DTC is displayed
•  Repeat the diagnosis from Step 1.
If DTC is not displayed
•  Go to repair completion verification 2.
Repair completion verification 1
VERIFY THAT VEHICLE IS REPAIRED
•  Install/connect the part removed/disconnected during the troubleshooting procedure.
•  Clear the DTC recorded in the memory.
•  Perform the DTC inspection for the vehicle control module (VCM).
•  Is the same Pending DTC present?
Yes
Refer to the controller area network (CAN) malfunction diagnosis flow to inspect for a CAN communication error.
If the CAN communication is normal, perform the diagnosis from Step 1.
•  If the malfunction recurs, replace the body control module (BCM), then go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
Repair completion verification 2
VERIFY IF OTHER DTC IS DISPLAYED
•  Perform the DTC inspection.
•  Are any other DTCs displayed?
Yes
Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
No
DTC troubleshooting completed.

No
Go to the next step.

Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Add genuine brake fluid and perform the repair completion verification.

INSPECT BRAKE FLUID LEVEL SENSOR CONNECTOR FOR MALFUNCTION
•   Inspect the applicable connector and terminal.
•  Are the connector and terminal normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.

INSPECT BRAKE FLUID LEVEL SENSOR FOR MALFUNCTION
•  Inspect the applicable part.
•  Is the part normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the Electronically controlled brake unit and perform the repair completion verification.

INSPECT ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED BRAKE UNIT FOR MALFUNCTION
•  Perform the DTC inspection for the electronically controlled brake unit.
•  Is a DTC displayed?
Yes
Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED BRAKE UNIT FOR MALFUNCTION DEPENDING ON REPEATABILITY
•  Install/connect the part removed/disconnected during the troubleshooting procedure.
•  Clear the DTC recorded in the memory.
•  Perform the DTC inspection for the vehicle control module (VCM).
•  Is the same Pending DTC present?
Yes
Refer to the controller area network (CAN) malfunction diagnosis flow to inspect for a CAN communication error.
If the CAN communication is normal, replace the electronically controlled brake unit and perform the repair completion verification.
No
Perform the [ACTION FOR NON-REPEATABLE MALFUNCTIONS].
If DTC is displayed
•  Repeat the diagnosis from Step 1.
If DTC is not displayed
•  Go to repair completion verification 2.
Repair completion verification 1
VERIFY THAT VEHICLE IS REPAIRED
•  Install/connect the part removed/disconnected during the troubleshooting procedure.
•  Clear the DTC recorded in the memory.
•  Perform the DTC inspection for the vehicle control module (VCM).
•  Is the same Pending DTC present?
Yes

No
