CATALYTIC CONVERTER (GPF) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-X 2.0]

Replacement part

Warning

•  A hot engine and exhaust system can cause severe burns. Turn off the engine and wait until they are cool before removing the exhaust system.

1.  Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION [(E)].)

2.  Remove the engine cover. (See ENGINE COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-X 2.0].)

3.  Remove the following parts. (See SIDE WALL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-X 2.0].)

•  Left wall (rear)

•  Rear wall

4.  Remove the crossmember. (See FRONT CROSSMEMBER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(E)].)

5.  Remove the following parts as a single unit. (See AIR CLEANER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-X 2.0].)

•  Air cleaner

•  Air hose

•  Fresh-air duct

6.  Remove the battery. (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-X 2.0].)

7.  Remove the battery tray and PCM as a single unit. (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-X 2.0].)

8.  Disconnect the middle pipe from the catalytic converter (GPF). (See MIDDLE PIPE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-X 2.0].)

9.  Remove the HO2S. (See HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR (HO2S) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-X 2.0].)

10.  Set the EGR cooler aside with the water hose connected. (See EGR COOLER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-X 2.0].)

11.  Disconnect the hoses shown in the figure.

12.  Remove the front drive shaft (RH). (AWD) (See FRONT DRIVE SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(E)].)

Caution

•  When removing the bracket, be careful not to damage the hook of the catalytic converter (gasoline particulate filter (GPF)).

13.  Remove the bracket shown in the figure. (AWD)

14.  Remove the transfer. (AWD) (See TRANSFER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [ET6AX-EL (SKYACTIV-X 2.0)].)

15.  Remove using the procedure shown in the figure.

16.  Install in the reverse order of removal.

17.  If the catalytic converter (GPF) is replaced, perform the gasoline particulate filter data reset. (See GASOLINE PARTICULATE FILTER DATA RESET [SKYACTIV-X 2.0].)

Catalytic Converter (GPF) Component Installation Note

1.  Temporarily install the band to the exhaust manifold flange area.

2.  Assemble the gasket to the exhaust manifold.

3.  Install the catalytic converter (GPF) component.

4.  Temporarily tighten bolt B.

5.  Install the band and temporarily tighten bolt A.

6.  Tighten bolt A.

7.  Insert the hook of the catalytic converter (gasoline particulate filter (GPF)) into the bracket.

8.  Temporarily tighten bolts C and D.

9.  Tighten bolts B and C.

10.  Tighten bolts D and E.
