• Perform the DTC inspection for the PCM.

• Are any of the following DTCs displayed?

Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.

Go to the next step.

INSPECT FOR A MALFUNCTION RELATED INABILITY TO START ENGINE
• Start the engine.
• Does the engine start normally?

DETERMINE IF MALFUNCTION IS CAUSED BY ROUGH IDLING OR A PISTON-STOP POSITION CONTROL MALFUNCTION
• Start the engine and warm it up completely.
• Is the idle speed stabilized?

Yes

Vehicles with Mazda M Hybrid:
• Go to Step 7.
Vehicles without Mazda M Hybrid:
• Go to the next step.

INSPECT GENERATOR CONTROL SYSTEM OPERATION
• Start the engine and let it idle.
• Access the ALT_VOLT_OUT_ACT PID using the M-MDS.
(See PID/DATA MONITOR INSPECTION.)
• Does the PID value increase when the rear window defogger, headlights, and blower motor are operated simultaneously?

Yes

Go to Step 10.

No
|
Inspect the following:
• Wiring harness between generator terminal 2B and PCM terminal 1BP
• Wiring harness between generator terminal 2A and PCM terminal 1AG
• Generator

VERIFY DTCs
• Perform the DTC inspection for the following modules.
(See DTC INSPECTION.)
• Are any DTCs displayed?

Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.

INSPECT DECOUPLING RING TENSIONER FOR MALFUNCTION

• Verify the CKP sensor signal using the oscilloscope.
• Is there any malfunction?

INSPECT CKP SENSOR PULSE WHEEL
• Visually inspect the CKP sensor pulse wheel.
• Are there any damage or scratches at the CKP sensor pulse wheel?

Yes

Replace the CKP sensor pulse wheel and perform the repair completion verification.

Inspect the wiring harness between the following terminals:
• CKP sensor terminal A—PCM terminal 1E
• CKP sensor terminal C—PCM terminal 1F
• CKP sensor terminal B—PCM terminal 1AP

• Perform the Drive-by-wire Control System Inspection.
• Is there any malfunction?

• Inspect the applicable part.
• Is the part normal?

No

Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.

INSPECT VACUUM HOSES CONNECTION
• Inspect the vacuum hose (such as evaporative hose, ventilation hose) routine. (With Mazda M Hybrid)
Inspect the vacuum hose (such as vacuum hose, evaporative hose, ventilation hose) routine. (Without Mazda M Hybrid)
• Are vacuum hoses routines properly?

Yes

Reconnect the suspected hoses and perform the repair completion verification.

• Inspect for leakage in intake-air system.

• Is there any malfunction?

Repair completion verification 1
|
VERIFY THAT VEHICLE IS REPAIRED
• Install/connect the part removed/disconnected during the troubleshooting procedure.
• Clear the DTC recorded in the memory.
(See CLEARING DTC.)
• Replicate the vehicle conditions at the time the DTC was detected using the following procedure.
• Perform the DTC inspection for the PCM.
(See DTC INSPECTION.)
• Is the same Pending DTC present?

Yes
|
Refer to the controller area network (CAN) malfunction diagnosis flow to inspect for a CAN communication error.
If the CAN communication is normal, perform the diagnosis from Step 1.
• If the malfunction recurs, replace the PCM, then go to the next step.

No
|
Go to the next step.
